Google Nexus One

Finally, Google has decided to sell their own smartphone.  It’s called the Nexus One, if you haven’t heard, but today, the specs were finally leaked.  The biggest surprise… that it might be invite-only for a while!

Hit the jump for more info!

According to Engadget, the phone will have:

  • 1GHz processor, the fastest of any phone out there
  • Android 2.1
  • 11.5mm thickness
  • 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB
  • 5 megapixel camera with mechanical AF and LED flash
  • HSPA 900 / 1700 / 2100, 7.2Mbps down and 2Mbps up — in other words, yes to T-Mobile 3G and no to AT&T 3G, though you’ll still be fine on EDGE
  • 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display

Nobody knows how the invites will be given out, except it will be Google who is doing the inviting.  Soon, T-Mobile should be able to sell the phone, though.

Expected price for this phone, that is to sell directly from Google are $199 (subsidized by advertisements) or $199 on T-Mobile with a 2-year contract.

Looks like the phone is already on sale on Google’s website. I am really tempted to get one and dump my Sprint plan. I am only concerned about the coverage in North Bay (Santa Rosa area). I learned from dslreports that you live in Santa Rosa and a t-mobile customer. Can you comment on the coverage (both voice and data)? Thanks.

I’m currently using a myTouch 3G and the coverage in SR, RP, Petaluma, and Windsor is great! I get fast 3G speeds, since they just upgraded the towers to an even faster 7.2 HSPA today!

Voice quality is good and data is good too. It’s full bars at my home (west side) and work (downtown).

Thanks. That definitely boosts some confidence.

I think you should get a trial or pre-paid phone and see how the reception is in your area (live/work/play).
